Wrenford launches needle disposal program at civic operations

Starting Monday, February 16, the City of Wrenford is adding a secure sharps drop-box at the Civic Operations Centre to make safe needle disposal easier for residents. The new drop-box is located at the front entrance of 455 Railside Road, Wrenford, ON N4Q 3K7 and is available around the clock.

How it works

The Sharps Container Drop-off Programme already provides free, year-round disposal for residents at all five fire halls, the East Wrenford Waste Management Facility, the Northgate Drop-off Depot, and local pharmacies. This expansion gives people who live or work near Railside Road a convenient place to drop off sealed sharps containers without having to drive across town.

Residents can bring their sealed sharps containers in a sturdy plastic bottle or a designated sharps container from any pharmacy or hardware store. The City does not accept loose needles or syringes. Please make sure the container is tightly closed and leak-proof before you place it in the drop-box.

A safer community for everyone

“Safe disposal of needles and syringes protects our waste crews, our neighbours, and the environment,” said Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. “By adding a drop-box at the Civic Operations Centre, we are making it a little easier for everyone to do the right thing.”

Next steps

If you have a container that is full or damaged, you can take it to any fire hall, depot, or pharmacy during their normal hours. For a full list of locations and safety tips, visit Needle and syringe disposal program.

The City continues to work with Tamsin Valley Public Health and local pharmacies to keep our community safe and clean. You can also find more waste collection information on Garbage & Recycling.
