Transit oriented development plan approved for downtown corridor expansion

The City of Wrenford announced on June 12, 2026, that Council has approved the Downtown Corridor Transit-Oriented Development Plan. The strategy was adopted at a regular meeting in the Council Chambers at Wrenford City Hall, and it changes how we build around the Downtown Transit Terminal and the main bus corridors.

The plan updates the Official Plan and Zoning By-law 2016-040 to allow more housing and mixed-use spaces within 400 metres of the terminal. This matches the province's Planning Act and recent housing targets. The changes give developers a clearer path to build, while making sure new structures fit the downtown grid around Mercer and Tamsin Streets.

As a resident, you will have more choices for where to live. The expansion encourages apartment buildings, townhomes, and ground-floor shops near the bus stops. This means you can easily catch Wrenford Transit routes 1 through 14 for your daily commute without needing a car.

"This plan ensures our downtown grows in the right places, close to where you need to go," said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. "We are building a city where transit is the most convenient way to live, work, and play."

City Manager Robert Eng explained that staff will now draft the zoning amendments and a design guide. The guide will help builders match the style of the historic core. The City will host a public session next month so you can ask questions and share your thoughts.
