Northgate Aquatic Centre, located at 910 Northgate Boulevard, is opening its doors this week for the 2026 summer swim lesson programme. The 50-metre pool, dive tank, and waterslide will welcome swimmers of all ages beginning Monday, May 11. Registration is now open through Recreation & Culture, and families can sign up online or at the front desk.
Swim lessons run from June through August, with sessions offered twice daily to accommodate busy schedules. Instructors are certified through a provincial aquatic safety programme, and class sizes are kept small to ensure safety and personalised attention. Drop-in swim hours will also resume at 6:00 a.m. on weekdays and 8:00 a.m. on weekends.
As the city wraps up its winter & snow beat operations, Roads & Winter Maintenance crews have completed the seasonal snow clearing and salt spreading. The overnight on-street parking ban ended March 31, and residents should check Snow clearing and sidewalk plowing for details on the final winter maintenance schedule. Standard parking bylaws apply year-round. For updates on road conditions and seasonal maintenance schedules, visit Roads & Winter Maintenance.
The aquatic centre also serves as a community hub for summer day camps and fitness programmes. Parents are encouraged to check the Recreation & Culture website for the full schedule of programmes, which include youth sports, arts, and outdoor activities at parks across the city.
"Having a safe, accessible place for kids to learn to swim is a top priority for our community," said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "We have expanded our instructor staff this year to meet the high demand and ensure every child gets the attention they need."
