New economic development strategy unveiled for Wrenford growth

Wrenford is rolling out a new five-year plan to grow the local economy. City Council approved the strategy on May 26, 2026. The plan focuses on three main goals: keeping local businesses strong, bringing new green manufacturing jobs to the Industrial Park East area, and updating the downtown core along Mercer Street.

City staff developed the plan after talking with the Wrenford Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Wrenford BIA, Tamsin College, and hundreds of residents. "Our city has always been built by the river, but our future lies in a strong, diverse economy. This plan gives us a clear path to support the employers who keep our community running while welcoming new industries that respect our environment," says Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price.

Economic Development Manager Isabel Moreno says the strategy puts local needs first. "We listened closely to business owners who want better infrastructure and to new entrepreneurs looking for space to grow. This strategy makes sure we are ready for the next decade of development," she says.

The plan introduces a Green Manufacturing Site Preparation Grant to help companies build clean facilities. It also expands the Downtown business improvement grants to fund sidewalk repairs and outdoor patio upgrades. City staff will start rolling out these programmes right away. You can learn more at public information sessions at the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre and the Wrenford Public Library — Main Branch in June.
