Lights at the Falls winter festival planning begins for November

The City of Wrenford is officially kicking off planning for Lights at the Falls, our annual winter festival that will turn the Fallsview neighbourhood into a sparkling holiday destination from late November through December.

Events Coordinator Rosa Castellano says the planning phase starts early to make sure every installation and vendor booth is safe and well-located. "We want to give you a festival that is easy to navigate, fully accessible, and packed with festive cheer," says Castellano. "Starting our planning now means we can work closely with the Planning and Development team to get all the right permits in place before the first snow falls."

Residents who want to participate as vendors or install large light displays must submit a planning application through the City's Planning and Development department. Anyone setting up temporary structures, generators, or seating in public spaces will also need a street use permit. The City reviews these requests to ensure they do not block sidewalks, interfere with winter road maintenance, or create fire hazards.

The festival will feature a mix of static light sculptures, interactive displays, and a central gathering area near the Fallsview Arts Centre. The City is looking for local artists, community groups, and small businesses to submit proposals for vendor spaces and art installations. Proposals must include safety plans, power requirements, and a breakdown of how the display will be dismantled after the season.

Once the planning phase wraps up, the City will release the full schedule of activities, including a family-friendly lighting ceremony, holiday markets, and live entertainment. In the meantime, residents can view past festival maps and learn how to apply for vendor spaces through the Planning and Development portal.
