Fire hydrant flushing continues in Northgate area for 2026

Wrenford Fire Rescue and water operations crews are flushing fire hydrants across the Northgate neighbourhood through March 2026. The work takes place along Northgate Boulevard and the surrounding residential streets to keep your water clean and your hydrants ready for emergencies.

Every spring, crews open hydrants and let water flow through the pipes. This routine maintenance clears out sediment, checks water pressure and flow, and makes sure the equipment works when you need it most. It also helps us meet provincial water quality standards.

If you live in the work zone, expect crews parked along the curb and short road closures while they work. You may notice a temporary drop in water pressure, and your tap water might look slightly brown or cloudy at first. This is normal and not a health risk. Simply run the cold water taps in your home for five to ten minutes until the water runs clear. Do not run the washing machine or dishwasher during the flushing window to avoid staining clothes or dishes.

Crews usually work from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. If you need to be home for a water shut-off or have a mobility aid that requires running water, call 311 or 519-555-0100 so we can schedule a time that works for you.

"We do this every spring to make sure your taps stay clean and your hydrants work when you need them most," says Samuel Adeyemi, GM Infrastructure and Planning. "Your patience during the short work windows makes a big difference for the whole neighbourhood."
