The City of Wrenford will begin flushing fire hydrants in the Westbrook neighbourhood starting Monday, April 20, 2026. This annual spring maintenance checks water quality, clears sediment from the pipes, and confirms that every hydrant can deliver full pressure when firefighters need it.
Water crews will work through Westbrook Drive, Corvid Way, and the surrounding streets over the next two weeks. As water moves through older sections of the main, it can pick up harmless mineral deposits that make the water look cloudy or slightly brown for a short time. This is normal and the water is safe to drink.
If you notice discoloured water, run a cold water tap for five minutes until it runs clear. Avoid doing laundry or running the dishwasher while the flushing is happening in your area, as the sediment can clog appliance filters. Do not run hot water taps, since sediment can settle in your water heater.
"Flushing is a routine but essential part of keeping our water system healthy and ready for emergencies," says Fire Chief Darren MacAulay. "We appreciate residents' patience while we work through the Westbrook streets and remind everyone never to leave a hydrant open or block one with parked vehicles."
Crews will work Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If your water does not clear after running the tap for 30 minutes, or if you experience a drop in water pressure, contact the Civic Operations Centre at 311 or 519-555-0100.
