Fire department reminds public of fireworks safety rules 2026

The City of Wrenford Fire Rescue is reminding residents that personal fireworks are not allowed in the city. While the official fireworks display took place over Centennial Gardens on July 1, anyone setting off personal fireworks elsewhere faces fines.

"We want to remind everyone to leave fireworks to the professionals," said Deputy Fire Chief Simon Hartley. "Fireworks can cause serious injuries and start dangerous wildfires, which is why our by-laws strictly prohibit personal use."

Instead of lighting fireworks, residents are encouraged to celebrate with safer, family-friendly alternatives. Glow sticks, air horns, noisemakers, and outdoor movie nights are great ways to mark the occasion without the risk. If you do decide to host a special event that requires pyrotechnics, you must submit a fire safety plan and obtain the necessary permits through the Fire Rescue department at least two weeks in advance.

Violations of the Public Spaces Safety By-law can result in fines. The Wrenford Police Service will also be patrolling Centennial Gardens and nearby streets to keep the crowd safe and manage traffic. If you hear illegal fireworks being set off or have a noise complaint, call 311 during the day or 9-1-1 if it is an emergency.
