Election bylaw amendments for 2027 municipal election published

The City of Wrenford is publishing amended election bylaws to prepare for the 2027 municipal election. The changes, approved by Council on May 20, 2026, update how the City handles voter registration, campaign finance reporting, and election signage.

The updated bylaws align with recent changes to the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 and provincial election regulations. One key update removes the requirement for paper copies of campaign financial statements. Candidates will now submit all financial reports electronically through the City’s secure online portal, which makes the information easier for the public to review. The City will also adjust the rules for election signs to reduce clutter on public property. Signs must now be removed within 48 hours after the polls close on election day, and the maximum size for residential signs has been reduced slightly to fit standard residential lots.

“These changes make the election process smoother for candidates and clearer for residents,” said City Manager Robert Eng. “By moving reporting online and tightening sign rules, we can keep our focus on the issues that matter to our community.”

Residents can view the full amended election bylaw on the City’s website under the By-laws section. The Clerk’s Office will host three information sessions in June to walk candidates and the public through the new registration steps and financial reporting deadlines.
