On Monday, October 13, 2026, City Council approved a set of financial guidelines and capital priorities that will guide the development of the 2027 budget. The approved plan outlines how the city will allocate tax revenue and borrow for infrastructure projects over the coming year, ensuring that spending aligns with the 2026–2030 Council Term Direction.
Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price emphasized that the approved priorities put residents first. “This plan focuses on what matters most to our community: keeping our neighbourhoods safe, expanding affordable housing options, and maintaining the roads and water systems you rely on every day,” she said.
The 2027 Housing and Safety Investment Plan directs staff to target funding for non-market housing projects and support zoning changes that allow for more affordable rental units. The plan also strengthens the partnership between the City and the Wrenford Police Service to fund community safety programmes and upgrade existing police and fire facilities.
In addition to housing and safety, the approved capital budget totals $425 million for infrastructure and public facilities. Major investments include replacing aging water and sewer mains, resurfacing residential streets, upgrading community centres and parks, and funding the construction of a new fire station in the growing Wildrye neighbourhood. Administration will report back in November with a detailed budget proposal for Council’s review and public debate.
Residents can help shape the final budget by sharing their feedback at upcoming budget engagement sessions. All meetings are open to the public and will be livestreamed. We encourage you to attend or submit your comments online so we can build a budget that works for everyone.
