On March 5, 2026, City Council approved the schematic design for the new Westbrook Community Arena. The project will replace the existing facility at 40 Westbrook Drive in the Westbrook neighbourhood (Ward 2). Construction is expected to begin in late 2026, with the new arena opening in 2029.
The approved design features a 2,000-seat main arena, two regulation ice pads, a fully equipped fitness centre, a teaching pool, and accessible multi-purpose rooms. The $38,000,000 project is funded through the 2026 Tax Levy By-law 2026-044 and the City's long-term recreation capital plan. The current arena, which opened in 1998, has been operating past its recommended lifespan and requires ongoing repairs that no longer meet modern energy and accessibility standards.
“We are listening to the community to make sure this arena serves everyone in Westbrook and the wider region,” said GM Community Services Fiona Gallagher. “This design is just the beginning, and we want your input to shape the final plans.”
Residents can now help shape the project. The City will hold three public drop-in sessions at the current Westbrook Community Arena from March 10 to April 15, 2026. You can also submit your ideas through the online feedback form. Staff will review all comments before finalizing the construction drawings later this year.
