Council approves 2027 property tax rate bylaw for residential owners

City Council approved the 2027 Tax Levy By-law 2027-041 on Monday, August 4, 2026, setting the property tax rates for the upcoming year. The approved rate keeps the increase for residential property owners at 2.5 per cent, in line with the rate of inflation and the city's 2027–2030 Strategic Plan priorities. This approach balances the need for essential services like transit, public safety, and waste collection with cost-of-living relief for residents.

During the budget engagement period earlier this year, more than 1,200 residents shared their feedback on how the city should spend tax dollars. Council listened closely and adjusted the proposed budget to protect core services while limiting the overall tax hike. The approved bylaw funds key initiatives, including the Corvid Creek Ravine Pathway Extension, expanded winter maintenance routes in the Wildrye neighbourhood, and continued support for the Tamsin Valley Conservation Authority's flood mitigation programs along the Tamsin River.

"We have worked hard to keep property tax increases affordable for homeowners and small businesses while still investing in the services you rely on every day," says City Manager Robert Eng. "This bylaw ensures we can maintain our standards without overburdening residents."

Residential property owners will receive their interim tax bills on the last business day of February 2027, with the final bill due on the last business day of June 2027. Pre-authorized monthly payment plans and instalment options are available to help manage costs. You can also adjust your payment plan anytime through your online account or by calling 311.
