On April 17, 2026, City Council voted to approve the Wrenford Growth and Community Plan 2027–2036. This ten-year roadmap will guide how we build the neighbourhoods where you live, protect the Tamsin River, and welcome new businesses across the city.
The plan updates the 2018 Official Plan to match our current population of 92,400 people. It focuses on three main goals: building complete neighbourhoods with transit and schools, protecting natural spaces like the Corvid Creek Ravine and Ambrel Lake, and supporting local manufacturing and logistics along the Highway 401 corridor.
City staff worked with residents, developers, and local business leaders to shape the strategy. Public engagement sessions in the Benchlands and Wildrye neighbourhoods highlighted the need for more affordable housing, safer trails, and better access to community centres. The approved plan includes new policies to encourage mixed-use development near the downtown grid and the Northgate transit terminal.
“This plan makes sure our city grows in a way that keeps Wrenford affordable, green, and connected,” says Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. “It gives developers, residents, and city staff a clear set of rules so we can build responsibly for the next decade.”
The new plan takes effect immediately. The Zoning By-law 2016-040 will be updated this summer to match the new growth areas. You can view the full document online and attend a public information workshop in May to ask questions and share feedback.
