Council adopts new immigration strategy for community growth

On June 24, 2026, Wrenford Council approved the Wrenford Welcomes Immigration Strategy at a regular meeting in the Council Chambers at Wrenford City Hall. The new plan sets a goal to attract and retain 10,000 newcomers over the next decade, helping to support Wrenford's current population of 92,400 and strengthen the local economy.

The strategy outlines eight key priorities for the coming years. These include creating a “no wrong door” approach so you can easily find the support you need, improving settlement services that address current gaps, and launching a pilot program to attract skilled workers to the region. The plan also calls for better communications about Wrenford’s neighbourhoods, from the downtown core near the Tamsin River to the newer communities in Wildrye and Northgate.

“Wrenford is focused on making this city and the surrounding area an even more welcoming and opportunity-filled place for newcomers arriving to Ontario,” says Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. “The goals in this plan are key to growing our population and will help us build a more vibrant community for everyone to enjoy.”

While the City led the development of the strategy, implementation will be a team effort. Local settlement agencies, the Wrenford Public Library Board, Tamsin Valley Public Health, the Wrenford Police Service, school boards, and post-secondary institutions like Tamsin College will work together to deliver the actions. The strategy also builds on the City of Wrenford Official Plan and a three-year study funded by federal, provincial, and municipal partners. That study included input from more than 900 local immigrants and dozens of community groups. Economic Development leaders note that a key to success is working with all levels of government and community partners to ensure we are growth ready.

Council approved the strategy to align with the city’s long-term growth targets. The plan will be reviewed annually to track progress and adjust programs as needed.
