Wrenford, ON — City Council approved updates to development contributions today that will make it faster and less expensive to build new housing, create job space, and fund community amenities like parks and trails. The changes take effect immediately and apply to all development applications moving forward.
The updated framework adjusts how development cost charges and related fees are calculated across the city. By consolidating several overlapping charges and introducing targeted waivers, the City is removing financial barriers that have slowed project approvals. Non-profit housing developers will see a full waiver of development cost charges for rental projects, while private developers building missing-middle housing will qualify for a twenty-five per cent reduction. The changes also introduce a streamlined permit track for projects that include affordable units or green building features.
"For residents, visitors and newcomers, Wrenford is a city where people can live, work and play," said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. "These updates remove old roadblocks, keep our community services funded, and make sure new neighbourhoods are built with the parks, trails and amenities that families need from day one."
The changes are part of the City's wider Permitting Improvement Program, which aims to simplify application processes and cut review times. Staff will now use a single development guideline checklist for most residential and commercial projects, replacing the previous patchwork of zone-specific rules. The program also introduces a digital tracking portal so you can see exactly where your file is in the review process.
