As temperatures rise and snow melts across Wrenford, the City wants to remind residents to stay safe around the Tamsin River, Ambrel Lake, and local storm ponds. Ice conditions are unpredictable right now, and the ground is still thawing in many areas.
With the ground thawing and ice becoming thin, we are asking everyone to use extra caution near waterways and to report any blocked drains right away.
says Samuel Adeyemi, the City's general manager of infrastructure and planning.
Spring ice is very different from winter ice. Running water under rivers and lakes weakens the ice from below, making it much more likely to break. Do not walk, skate, or drive on the ice near Ambrel Lake Park, Riverside Flats Park, or along the Tamsin River Trail System. If you see someone fall through, call 911 immediately. Do not try to rescue them by walking onto the ice. If you must help, throw a rope, a long branch, or anything that can float to the person in the water.
As the snow melts, the City is also working hard to keep storm drains and catch basins clear. Heavy spring runoff can quickly overwhelm blocked drains, leading to flooded streets and basements. Residents can help by keeping leaves, sticks, and debris away from grates near their property. If you see a drain covered in ice or notice water pooling on your street, call 311 or submit a request through the Service Wrenford portal. Our crews have special equipment to thaw frozen drains and will prioritize areas where water is causing property damage or blocking traffic.
