City exceeds provincial housing targets for second time

On September 3, 2026, the City of Wrenford announced it has exceeded the provincial housing target for a second consecutive year. The city has officially delivered 1,200 new homes across Wrenford, meeting the five-year goal set by the Province ahead of schedule.

This is a win for every resident who needs a place to call home, said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. By working closely with builders, developers and the Province, we are keeping the promise of the Wrenford Housing Strategy 2025–2030 and making sure our community stays affordable for the long term.

Between October 1, 2024, and September 30, 2026, the city's development pipeline produced a mix of rental apartments, townhouses and low-rise homes. High interest rates and rising construction costs slowed some projects, but the city streamlined its approval process through the Wrenford Housing Strategy 2025–2030. City staff now review applications faster, and new digital tools let builders track their permits online.

The province sets these targets under the Housing Supply Act to ensure every municipality adds enough homes for growing families and newcomers. While the city controls the permitting side, the actual speed of construction depends on builders, material costs and financing. The city continues to work with industry partners to keep the momentum going.

If you are looking for a new home, the city offers several programs to help. You can explore market rentals, apply for affordable housing through the Apply for affordable housing program, or check the latest progress in the Housing Targets Report 2026. The city also tracks all new builds on the Housing page, where you will find updates on zoning changes, development charges and community consultation dates.

The city will continue to monitor the housing pipeline and report quarterly to the Province.
