Today, the City of Wrenford breaks ground on a new 80-unit affordable housing development in the Ambrel Lake neighbourhood. Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price, City Manager Robert Eng, and representatives from Tamsin Valley Housing Co-op joined community members at the site on Ambrel Lake Road to mark the start of construction.
The project, named the Ambrel Lake Residences, will deliver 80 new rental homes. The buildings will include a mix of one- and two-bedroom units designed for families and older adults. Construction is expected to finish in late 2028. The site sits just steps from Ambrel Lake Park, giving you easy access to green space and the Tamsin River Trail System.
The City is supporting this project through the Housing Capital Initiative and the Housing Development Grant. The City also waived all development cost charges for the project, saving the developer over $1.2 million. In return, all 80 units will remain affordable for at least twenty years. Rents will stay at or below 90 per cent of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation market rate.
"Housing is a basic need, and we are committed to making sure it is within reach for everyone in Wrenford," says Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. "This project brings safe, stable homes to our community and shows how the City, non-profits, and the Province can work together to build a stronger neighbourhood."
Building permits are now in place, and site preparation work is underway. Tamsin Valley Conservation Authority has reviewed the floodplain considerations along the nearby creek, ensuring the site meets all environmental standards. The City will continue to update you on construction milestones.
