City announces 2026 heritage awards for conservation excellence

September 20, 2026 — The City of Wrenford is proud to announce the winners of the 2026 Heritage Awards. The Heritage Development Board selected these recipients to honour property owners and community groups who have worked hard to protect and share the city's history.

This year's awards celebrate three different ways of keeping our past alive. The Conservation Excellence Award goes to projects that restore original features on older buildings. The Living Heritage Award recognises programs that share community stories and support cultural traditions. The Stewardship Award honours long-term care of a heritage property.

Here are the 2026 recipients:

Conservation Excellence Award
10 Mill Street, owned by the Patel family. The Patels carefully restored the original brickwork and timber frames of this 1920s home, keeping its historic character intact.

Living Heritage Award
The Tamsin River Tales Walking Tour. This project connects visitors with the city's history through ten self-guided markers along the river trail, making the past easy to explore on foot.

Stewardship Award
45 Benchlands Drive, owned by the Chen family. The Chens have maintained their heritage home for over twenty years, using traditional materials to repair the roof and windows.

"On behalf of Council, I want to thank everyone who has worked to keep our historic buildings standing and our stories alive," said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. "These awards show how much we value the places that tell the story of Wrenford and the people who care for them."

The Heritage Development Board reviews all nominations each fall. To be eligible, a project must have been completed within the past five years and must not have received a Wrenford Heritage Award before.
