The City of Wrenford is kicking off the spring season at Centennial Gardens with a volunteer planting day on Sunday, March 15. You can help prepare the downtown formal gardens for the months ahead.
You can meet the crew at the garden entrance on 5 Victoria Street at 9:00 a.m. Together, you will focus on weeding garden beds, mulching perennial borders, and planting early spring bulbs and native wildflowers. The City will provide gloves, hand tools, soil, and light refreshments. No gardening experience is needed.
The garden, located just steps from the city cenotaph and the Tamsin River trail system, is a beloved gathering space for weddings, quiet walks, and community events. This spring, the Arts & Heritage team is also adding new interpretive signage to highlight the garden’s history since the city’s centennial celebrations.
“Centennial Gardens has been a place for Wrenford to gather, celebrate, and find a little peace since the 1950s,” said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. “Getting the community together to care for the space is the perfect way to start the season. Whether you have a green thumb or just want to lend a hand, there is a spot for you in the beds.”
After the planting work, you can join a short walk along the Tamsin River Trail to learn how the garden’s stormwater plantings help keep the river and Corvid Creek healthy. Families are welcome, but children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
If you would like to join us, please register by March 13 at Wrenford.ca/volunteer-gardens or call 519-555-0100. The City will also accept walk-up volunteers on the morning of the event, subject to space.
