The City of Wrenford is moving the start time for Canada Day in the Park to the evening to keep everyone safe and comfortable during the extreme heat warning. The celebration will now take place at Centennial Gardens from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on July 1, 2026.
With an Environment Canada heat warning in effect for the region, temperatures are expected to peak in the high 30s today and tomorrow. Moving the event to the evening allows the air to cool down and gives us more time to set up shaded areas and water stations. We want to make sure you can enjoy the fireworks, music, and food without risking heat exhaustion.
If you are planning to attend, please bring your own water bottles and dress in light, loose-fitting clothing. The City will have refill stations set up throughout the park, but staying hydrated is the best way to beat the heat. Remember that heat illness can happen quickly, so take breaks in the shade and check on your neighbours, especially older adults and young children.
"We know how much the community looks forward to this celebration, and we are working hard to make sure it is a safe and enjoyable night for everyone," said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "We appreciate your flexibility as we adjust the schedule to keep our residents cool."
