Benchlands Lookout Park trail repairs reopen hiking paths

Crews have finished repairing the trail surface at Benchlands Lookout Park, and all hiking paths are now open to the public as of Tuesday, August 11.

The repairs focused on the main loop and the connection to the Tamsin River Trail System, which are popular routes for walkers, runners, and strollers. Over the past few weeks, crews replaced eroded sections, improved drainage near the riverbank, and refreshed the gravel surface to prevent slipping. The Tamsin River Trail System spans 64 kilometres across the city, and Benchlands Lookout Park serves as one of its main trailheads. The repairs also included adding new signage near the Centennial Bridge overpass to help visitors navigate the loop.

The seasonal weather in Wrenford can be unpredictable, so the City prioritized drainage improvements this year. These changes will reduce mud and standing water on the path during spring thaws and heavy autumn rains. We appreciate your patience while the work was underway, and we look forward to seeing you out on the trails.

"We want to make sure these paths are safe and comfortable for everyone using them," says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. "The upgrades will help the trails hold up better through the wetter months ahead." Residents are reminded to stay on the marked paths to protect the natural environment and to pick up after their pets. If you notice any issues on the trails, you can report them through the City's 311 service line or by calling 519-555-0100.
