Benchlands Lookout Park will close on Saturday, July 25 for urgent slope safety work. The City will carry out geotechnical assessments and erosion control measures on the west bank of the Tamsin River to ensure public safety and protect the natural landscape.
Crews will set up barricades and fencing around the affected areas near the lookout point and the festival grounds. Work is expected to take approximately two weeks, running from July 25 through mid-August. During this time, trail users will need to use alternate routes along the trail system. Signage will be posted at the park entrance to guide you to the closest open access points.
"Protecting the stability of the Benchlands escarpment is a top priority for us," says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. "This work will help prevent future erosion and keep the trail system safe for everyone to enjoy for years to come."
Residents and visitors should expect some noise and temporary detours while crews work. Please obey all posted signs and stay behind the barricades. If you have questions about the project or need to report an issue, contact City Services at 519-555-0100 or check the latest updates on Service Alerts.
