Ambrel Lake Park trail system opens for summer recreation

Residents can now enjoy the boardwalk and multi-use trails at Ambrel Lake Park as the City officially opens the trail system for summer recreation. The 64-kilometre Tamsin River Trail System continues to connect neighbourhoods across Wrenford, with the Ambrel Lake section offering a flat, accessible route for walkers, cyclists, and families.

The park’s boardwalk runs alongside the stormwater lake, providing safe passage through the natural habitat and direct access to the playground and picnic shelters. The City’s Parks Planner, Maya Chen-Watson, says the trail system is designed to keep everyone comfortable and safe while enjoying the outdoors.

"We are thrilled to welcome residents out to enjoy the boardwalk and natural spaces around Ambrel Lake this summer," says Chen-Watson. "It is a great place for walking, cycling, and connecting with nature right in the city, and we want to make sure everyone knows how to use the trails responsibly."

Trails are open from dawn to dusk. Cyclists must yield to pedestrians and walk their bikes on the boardwalk during peak afternoon hours. Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times, and waste must be packed out. The playground equipment and the bookable picnic shelters are also available for use. Visitors can reserve shelters by calling the City at 519-555-0100 or through the online booking portal.

Residents planning a group event or a community clean-up should review the Street Use Permits requirements if they need to occupy any adjacent parking areas. All users are asked to stay on designated paths to protect the sensitive shoreline and native plantings.

The trail system upgrade was funded through the current Council-approved capital budget, ensuring long-term maintenance for years to come. For full details on trail hours, seasonal programming, and map links, visit the Parks & Trails page.
