The City of Wrenford today released its 2025 Environmental Report, showing how residents, businesses, and city staff are working together to protect the environment and build a more sustainable future. The report tracks the city's progress toward long-term climate and conservation goals.
Waste diversion reached 42 per cent in 2025, moving closer to the city-wide target of 60 per cent by 2030. Residents kept more materials out of the landfill by sorting paper, plastics, and yard waste correctly. Multi-unit buildings also joined the programme, with 90 per cent enrolling in organics and recycling collection before the January 1, 2026 deadline. Transit ridership grew by 12 per cent as more people chose Wrenford Transit over driving. The city also planted 1,200 trees through the Canopy for Wrenford initiative, adding to the urban forest that cools neighbourhoods and cleans the air.
Water conservation efforts helped cut per capita water use by 8 per cent. The city upgraded older meters and shared simple tips for fixing leaks and watering gardens. The report also highlights work on green spaces and trails. The Winter Trail Clearing Programme kept the 64 km Tamsin River Trail System safe for walkers and cyclists, even during heavy snow. Park maintenance crews focused on restoring natural areas and improving playground safety.
"Turning sustainability goals into real results takes everyone in the community," said Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. "When you sort your waste, take the bus, or plant a tree, you are directly supporting a healthier city for the future. We are proud of the progress we have made, and we are excited to build on it in 2026."
