Wrenford Police Service launches winter business safety outreach

The Wrenford Police Service is teaming up with City of Wrenford staff to launch a winter safety outreach programme for local business owners. Starting now and running through March 31, 2026, the initiative focuses on the downtown core, Fallsview, and Old Mill neighbourhoods. It is built to help you handle seasonal challenges like icy sidewalks, longer holiday hours, and increased risks for property crime.

The programme runs every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. during the first six weeks of November. City staff will bring clipboards, checklists, and free lock and alarm discount codes from local providers. You do not need to be a current business licence holder to attend, but merchants in the downtown grid will receive priority for the free storefront walkthroughs. If your shop is located in a newer area like Northgate or Ambrel Lake, the mobile clinics will visit those neighbourhoods in December. The outreach will feature mobile safety clinics staffed by police community officers, by-law enforcement, and economic development representatives. You can book one-on-one consultations to review your outdoor signage and patio permits, discuss winter parking and snow removal rules, and learn about free security assessments for your storefronts and rear lanes. The City is also providing printed guides on reporting non-emergency incidents and accessing Downtown business improvement grants for visible security upgrades.

"Winter brings unique challenges for our merchants, from reduced foot traffic to increased risks for cash handling and after-hours operations," said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. "This outreach is about making sure business owners have direct access to the safety resources and city services they need to keep their doors open and their customers safe through the colder months."

If you want to join the programme, you can register through the Economic Development team or contact the Downtown BIA for group booking sessions. The Wrenford Police Service Headquarters will also host monthly "Coffee with a Cop" drop-in sessions at the Downtown Transit Terminal to discuss neighbourhood safety trends and answer your questions directly.
