The Wrenford Police Service will host a free workshop to help local business owners recognize and prevent financial fraud in their operations. The session, called "Protecting Your Business: Fraud Prevention for Wrenford Owners," takes place on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Wrenford City Hall, 100 Mercer Street.
Business fraud continues to be a growing concern for shop owners, service providers and corporate offices across the city. Scammers use email, phone calls and fake websites to trick employees into sending money or sharing sensitive data. This workshop gives you practical tools to spot red flags, secure your accounts and train your staff to stay safe online.
Isabel Moreno, Economic Development Manager, said, "We want every business in Wrenford to have the knowledge and resources to protect itself. When you know how to spot a scam early, you protect your bottom line and keep your team secure."
The workshop covers common scams targeting Ontario businesses, including invoice fraud, business email compromise and phishing attacks. You will learn how to verify requests for payments, set up multi-factor authentication and create internal reporting steps. The session also includes time for questions and a one-on-one consultation with police cyber advisors.
Registration is required. You can sign up online through the Wrenford Public Library website or by calling 519-555-0100. The workshop is free and open to all business owners and managers. Space is limited to 40 participants, so early registration is recommended.
