Wrenford parks close for winter season maintenance

As the leaves fall and temperatures drop, the City of Wrenford is preparing parks and outdoor spaces for the winter season. Starting this month, crews will begin closing seasonal amenities to protect them from freezing and to complete necessary repairs. Residents are encouraged to enjoy these spaces while the weather holds, and plan indoor recreation for the colder months ahead.

Outdoor swimming pools closed for the season on Labour Day weekend. The splash pad at Wildrye Park and the outdoor pool at Kingfisher Court have since been drained and locked down. Seasonal washrooms at Centennial Gardens, Riverside Flats Park, and Ambrel Lake Park are also shut down. These facilities typically remain open from late June until early fall, but cold weather and freezing pipes require them to be winterized.

"We want to make sure everyone can enjoy the trails and green spaces safely through the colder months, and these closures help us keep the city's parks in great shape for next year," says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. "Crews will also be inspecting playgrounds and benches, clearing debris, and treating surfaces to prevent slip hazards when snow and ice arrive."

While parks remain open for walking and winter sports, residents need to be aware of the overnight on-street parking ban. Starting December 1 and running through March 31, vehicles cannot park on main roads between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. This window gives Roads & Winter Maintenance crews the space needed to plow residential and collector streets after snowfalls. If you live on a snow route, you must clear the sidewalk in front of your property within 24 hours of any snowfall. You can apply for a snow route parking ban exemption if you have a verified mobility condition.
