Wrenford launches 2026 green infrastructure budget consultation

The City of Wrenford is opening its 2026 green infrastructure budget for public review. Starting today, we want to hear from you on how we should invest in rain gardens, tree planting, and stormwater management across the city. This consultation runs through November 15, 2025.

Green infrastructure means using nature to solve city problems. In Wrenford, that mostly means managing stormwater. When rain falls on parking lots and roofs, it flows into the Tamsin River and Corvid Creek. We want to slow that water down using green spaces, permeable pathways, and new rain gardens in neighbourhoods like Riverside Flats and Ambrel Lake. The budget also supports the Canopy for Wrenford tree planting initiative and protects the natural areas in the Corvid Creek Ravine.

The proposed $4.2 million green infrastructure plan comes from the 2026 Capital Budget and a small adjustment to the stormwater utility rate. These projects will replace aging drainage pipes, upgrade catch basins, and create new multi-use trails that double as water filtration zones. The plan also includes $350,000 for green roofs on three City buildings, including the Civic Operations Centre and the East Wrenford Waste Management Facility.

“We are shifting how we manage stormwater from grey pipes to green spaces,” said Samuel Adeyemi, General Manager of Infrastructure and Planning. “These projects will reduce flooding along the river, keep our waterways clean, and give neighbourhoods more shaded parks and safer trails.”

You can share your ideas in three ways. The online survey is open now on our website. We will also host two drop-in sessions where you can meet with planners and see maps of the proposed sites. The first session is on October 24 at Wrenford City Hall, 100 Mercer Street. The second is on October 30 at the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre, 400 Benchlands Drive. Both sessions run from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

If you have questions about how the budget works or want to report a drainage issue, you can email our team at [email protected] or call 519-555-0100.

All feedback will be reviewed by the Planning and Development Committee before Council votes on the final budget in December. For more information on how we care for our parks, trails, and waterways, visit our Parks & Trails page.
