The City of Wrenford is activating its winter maintenance protocols today, November 10, 2025, in preparation for the first snowfall of the season. Crews from Roads & Winter Maintenance are brining, salting, and staging equipment across all six wards. Main roads, bus routes, bridges, and key pedestrian pathways will be the top priority as temperatures drop.
Under the Winter Maintenance and Parking By-law 2020-097, the City begins plowing main roads once snow reaches five centimetres. Residential streets follow once snow reaches eight centimetres. Please note that the overnight on-street parking ban runs from December 1 to March 31, between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Vehicles left on streets during the ban will be ticketed and towed at the owner's expense. Residents are responsible for clearing snow and ice from the sidewalks next to their property. You must clear your sidewalk within 24 hours of a snowfall, or by 10:00 a.m. the following morning. Failing to do so can result in a fine of $250 to $750. Keep catch basins clear so melting snow can drain properly. If a catch basin is blocked, call 311 or report it through Service Wrenford.
"Our crews are working around the clock to keep traffic moving and keep you safe," says Samuel Adeyemi, General Manager of Infrastructure and Planning. "We need residents to clear their sidewalks quickly so pedestrians and transit riders can get around safely too."
As the cold sets in, the City and its community partners will activate warming centres when the temperature reaches -4°C or feels like -5°C. These centres provide hot drinks, snacks, and a safe place to stay. If you or someone you know is experiencing homelessness and needs help during extreme cold, contact the Extreme Cold Outreach team at [email protected] or call 311.
