Starting May 1, Wrenford will move into Stage 1 voluntary outdoor water restrictions. These rules help us protect our drinking water supply through the warmer, drier months while keeping our taps running for essential needs like cooking, cleaning, and fire protection.
Under Stage 1, you can water your lawn or garden on alternating days based on your street address. If your address is even, you can water on Saturdays. If it is odd, you can water on Sundays. You have one hour to water, between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. If you use a timer, it must be set to start between 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.
Hand watering with a hose that has a shut-off nozzle, using a watering can, or drip irrigation is allowed any day. You do not need to wait for your assigned day. Washing your car at a commercial car wash is encouraged, as these facilities recycle water and treat runoff before it enters the storm system. Filling backyard ponds, fountains, or other decorative features is limited to twice a week on your assigned watering day.
“We know outdoor watering feels like a simple summer routine, but even small changes add up to a big difference for our water system,” said Patrick Nguyen, Water Operations Manager. “Stage 1 is a voluntary step to get everyone into the habit of conserving water before demand peaks in July and August. We have tools and rebates ready to help you make the switch.”
Wrenford’s water supply comes from the Tamsin River and underground aquifers. Spring runoff and rainfall refill our system, but summer demand rises sharply. Using the Water Conservation Toolkit available at the Main Library or by calling 519-555-0100 can help you cut your indoor and outdoor use. You can also book a free home water audit to find hidden leaks and upgrade to high-efficiency fixtures. The WaterWise Appliance Rebate programme offers up to $200.00 for a qualifying washing machine or $50.00 for a dishwasher.
If you have questions about the rules or need help adjusting your sprinkler timer, contact the water conservation team at [email protected] or call 519-555-0100. Full details, including Stage 2 through Stage 4 rules and enforcement guidelines, are online.
