Snow clearing crews finish priority routes ahead of spring thaw

Wrenford's roads and winter service routes are now clear as the city wraps up snow removal operations ahead of the spring thaw. City crews finished clearing priority routes across the city as of March 6, 2025, marking the official end of the winter service season.

Since the overnight on-street parking ban began on December 1, operators have worked from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. to keep main corridors open. Under the city's winter maintenance plan, main roads were plowed when snow reached 5 centimetres, while residential streets were cleared at 8 centimetres. Crews serviced the downtown grid around Mercer and Tamsin Streets, as well as neighbourhoods like Benchlands, Northgate, and Wildrye.

"Our crews worked through the night and early morning to keep main corridors open for commuters and transit," said Samuel Adeyemi, GM Infrastructure and Planning. "We appreciate residents following the parking ban and giving our operators enough space to clear the snow safely."

With the thaw beginning, crews are shifting focus to pothole patching and spring sweeping, which runs from April to May by neighbourhood. You can expect reduced winter service hours and notice the temporary parking ban lifting. If you need to report a road or sidewalk issue, you can do so through the Service Wrenford portal.
