Starting today, the City of Wrenford is asking residents to share their thoughts on its first Seniors Housing Strategy. As our population grows, more older adults are looking for housing that supports aging in place, and we need your feedback to make sure our plans work for everyone.
The strategy will explore practical ways to keep housing affordable and accessible for seniors and adults aged 55 and older. It will take an inventory of existing senior housing options, identify gaps in the current market, and review design guidelines for new senior-focused buildings. The plan will also look at ways to expand supportive living, downsizing opportunities, and non-market units. In addition, the City will develop a rezoning and resident relocation policy to protect current tenants and work on stronger partnerships with local senior-serving organizations. The strategy will also include advocacy steps to secure improved funding from provincial and federal partners.
"Our seniors have built this city, and we want to make sure they have safe, affordable, and accessible places to call home as they get older," said City Manager Robert Eng. "This strategy is about listening to their experiences and finding practical solutions that keep them close to family, friends, and community services."
You can help shape the strategy by taking an online survey, attending a pop-up consultation event, or using a Conversation Kit to lead a discussion with a local group. The City will host information sessions at the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre and the Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre throughout March and April. We also encourage caregivers and adult children supporting aging family members to join the conversation. All feedback will be reviewed by City staff and presented to Council later this spring.
