Northgate Drop-off Depot hazardous waste hours extended

The City of Wrenford is extending hazardous waste collection hours at the Northgate Drop-off Depot starting September 1, 2025. Residents who need to dispose of household chemicals, paints, batteries, and other hazardous materials will now have two additional days to visit the depot.

The depot's hazardous waste collection schedule will expand to include Thursday and Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The regular Wednesday and Saturday drop-off hours will remain unchanged at 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This change is designed to reduce wait times and make it easier for families to bring in items like antifreeze, motor oil, cleaning solvents, and unused medications.

City Manager Robert Eng says, "We heard from residents that the current schedule made it difficult to find a time that works for everyone. Extending these hours ensures that safe disposal is convenient for every neighbourhood."

To prepare for your visit, please keep hazardous items in their original containers and secure them in sealed plastic bags. The depot staff can also provide guidance on proper packaging for items like aerosol cans and fluorescent light bulbs. All household hazardous waste is accepted free of charge for residents.

While you are out and about this fall, consider taking advantage of the city's expanding outdoor spaces. The new Tamsin River Trail System continues to connect parks from Ambrel Lake Park to the Corvid Creek Ravine Natural Area, making it easy to enjoy the outdoors after you drop off your waste. Remember to follow park rules and keep pets on a short leash in designated areas.
