The City of Wrenford will close the Northgate Aquatic Centre at 910 Northgate Boulevard for a major renewal project starting June 20, 2025. The facility will remain closed through August 14, with a planned reopening on August 15. This scheduled shutdown allows crews to replace the pool filtration system, upgrade the dive tank safety equipment, and resurface the waterslide.
Residents who usually swim or take classes at Northgate are encouraged to visit other City aquatic facilities during the closure. The 25-metre lap pool and leisure pool at the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre on Benchlands Drive will continue regular hours. Staff will also increase lane swimming times at the leisure centre to help accommodate the extra demand. Kingfisher Outdoor Pool will open for the summer season on July 1.
If you hold a season pass or a Recreation Value Pass, you can still use your membership at the leisure centre and Kingfisher. Passes are not affected by the closure. If you prefer to place a temporary hold on your pass or request a prorated credit, visit the customer service counter at any recreation facility between June 20 and August 14.
"We are making these upgrades now so we can provide a safer, more comfortable experience for families and athletes for years to come," says Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "We know changes to schedules can be inconvenient, but the work is essential for maintaining our aquatic programmes."
Customer service staff will remain available at the Northgate Aquatic Centre front desk on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to answer questions about the project. For a full list of operating hours and programme updates while the centre is closed, visit the Facility information and hours page.
