The City of Wrenford is making it easier for developers and housing providers to build on underused city land. On October 1, 2025, the Housing Land Bank announced the latest round of sites available for affordable housing projects across the city.
The land bank matches city-owned vacant lots and surplus buildings with developers who want to build affordable rentals or ownership housing. This round highlights the Neighbourhood Side-Lot Programme in the Northgate and Benchlands areas. These sites are close to transit, schools, and shopping, which helps the city grow in the right places without expanding outward.
“Building on land we already own means we can use our existing roads, pipes, and services more efficiently,” said Samuel Adeyemi, General Manager of Infrastructure and Planning. “It also allows us to direct new housing exactly where it is needed most, close to where people work, shop, and go to school.”
Developers can apply for the sites through the Housing Land Bank Review Committee. The city offers reduced application fees and streamlined zoning checks for projects that meet affordability targets. Eligible land trusts can purchase sites for just $1.00 if the property is appraised at $75,000 or less. Applications for this round open on November 1, 2025, and the deadline is November 15, 2025.
