The City of Wrenford has installed new waste receptacles and a dedicated pet waste composting station at Hollis Park Off-Leash Area. The upgrade, completed in late June 2025, addresses long-standing feedback from dog owners and neighbours in the Hollis Park neighbourhood.
Many of you reported that the existing bins overflowed during peak weekend hours. The City has now replaced three worn units with heavy-duty stainless steel bins and added a covered composting unit specifically for bagged pet waste. New signage also directs visitors to the closest drop-off depot at East Wrenford Waste Management Facility for larger items.
"We heard from residents that keeping the area clean was a top priority," says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. "These new bins are built to handle heavy daily use, and the composting station helps us divert more waste from the landfill."
The project cost $12,500 and was funded through the Parks & Trails spring maintenance budget. The City also updated the surrounding fencing and improved lighting along the main trail entrance.
As a dog owner, you must clean up after your pet under the Responsible Pet Ownership By-law 2018-063. The City's By-law Enforcement team continues to patrol off-leash areas to ensure compliance and keep the space welcoming for everyone.
If you notice a full bin, broken equipment, or any other maintenance issue at the off-leash area, please report it through Parks & Trails. For more information on city-managed off-leash areas, rules, and locations, visit our Parks & Trails page.
