Construction crews will begin installing fencing at the Hollis Park Off-Leash Area on Monday, March 24, 2025. The work is part of a planned upgrade to improve safety and provide a more comfortable space for dogs and their owners in the Hollis Park neighbourhood.
During the construction period, which is expected to last until late May 2025, there will be temporary changes to how you access the off-leash area. Construction vehicles will be using the main parking lot at 70 Hollis Park Drive, and you may hear equipment noise during regular working hours. To keep everyone safe, the main entrance near the playground will be closed. Please use the secondary entrance located on the east side of the park, just past the community garden beds.
The new fencing will create a clearly defined boundary for the off-leash area. This change follows feedback from local residents who asked for better separation between dog owners and other park users. The project also includes adding new waste receptacles, upgrading the gravel surface for better drainage, and installing additional benches along the perimeter.
"If we want our parks to work for everyone, we need to design them with clear boundaries and comfortable spaces," says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. "This upgrade gives the Hollis Park neighbourhood a dedicated off-leash area that is safe, accessible, and easy to maintain."
While the fencing is being installed, the off-leash area will remain open, but please keep your dogs on a leash while passing through the construction zone. You can report any issues with the work or ask questions through the Development Applications portal or by calling 311.
