First electric bus from second phase enters service on route 4

Starting Monday, January 13, 2025, the City of Wrenford is rolling out the first electric bus from the second phase of its zero-emission fleet plan on Route 4, which serves Eastfield and the downtown core. This new addition marks a major step forward in the city’s commitment to cleaner air and quieter streets.

The electric bus, which has an operating range of 310 kilometres on a single charge, will run alongside existing hybrid and diesel buses on the east-to-downtown corridor. Riders will notice a smoother, quieter ride and reduced emissions in the neighbourhoods it serves. The vehicle is part of the Diversified fleet strategy, which prioritizes electric buses for shorter routes and keeps diesel hybrids for longer runs.

“We are excited to bring this clean, quiet bus into service on Route 4,” said Transit Manager Daniel Osei. “Residents in Eastfield and downtown will enjoy a more comfortable ride, and the city will see a real drop in greenhouse gas emissions. This second-phase rollout is a big win for our community and our environment.”

The City is working with federal transit grants to cover a large portion of the bus and charging infrastructure costs. The second phase of the plan includes several more electric buses that will join the fleet throughout 2025. These vehicles are designed for high safety standards and easy access for all passengers, including those with mobility aids.

Riders can expect the usual schedules and fares. The Downtown Transit Terminal remains the main hub for transfers and fare purchases. If you have questions about route changes or accessibility features on the new bus, you can contact the Transit team at 519-555-0100 or visit 311 inside city limits.
