The City of Wrenford is upgrading the heating, ventilation, and exhaust systems at Fire Station 1 (Headquarters) at 210 Water Street. Work begins Monday, May 20, 2025, and is expected to finish by early July 2025.
The current equipment has reached the end of its service life. Crews will replace the main boilers, air handlers, and exhaust stacks with modern, energy-efficient units. These new systems will lower the station's energy use, improve indoor air quality for the firefighters, and reduce long-term maintenance costs for the city.
Because the new equipment is large, delivery trucks and work vehicles will need to use the loading bay on Water Street. To keep the public safe, the City will temporarily narrow the eastbound lane on Water Street just north of the station entrance. Heavy equipment will be in place from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. Motorists should follow posted detour signs and use Market Square or Mill Street to bypass the area.
"These upgrades ensure our firefighters have a safe, comfortable workspace and keep our city's carbon footprint lower," says Samuel Adeyemi, General Manager of Infrastructure and Planning. "We have scheduled the deliveries during off-peak hours to keep traffic moving as smoothly as possible."
Fire Station 1 will remain open and fully operational throughout the project. Emergency vehicles can still exit the station without delay. If you are driving past the station, please expect minor delays and follow the instructions of flaggers or traffic signs. The City appreciates your patience while we make these important improvements.
