Water mains in the Northgate area are getting a spring cleaning this week as part of the City's annual fire hydrant flushing program. Crews will open hydrants between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. to clear out sediment and keep water moving smoothly through the pipes. This routine maintenance is an important step in protecting water quality and ensuring strong pressure for everyone in the system.
If you live on or near Northgate Boulevard, Corvid Way, Eastfield Road, or the residential streets branching off them, you might notice your water looks cloudy or feels a little lighter in pressure for up to 20 minutes while crews work on your line. The water is perfectly safe to drink, but if you see discolouration, run your cold water tap for a few minutes until it runs clear. Avoid doing laundry or running the dishwasher until the water is completely clear.
The Fire Rescue team works closely with water operations to verify that every hydrant is fully pressurized and ready for emergencies throughout the year. "Keeping our water lines clean is a key part of making sure we have reliable service all year round," says Patrick Nguyen, Water Operations Manager. "We appreciate your patience while crews work through the neighbourhood."
The City will update the Service Alerts page as crews move into the next areas of the city. If you have questions about your water service, call Service Wrenford at 519-555-0100, dial 311, or email Water & Wastewater at [email protected].
