The City of Wrenford will begin its annual fire hydrant flushing program in the Ambrel Lake neighbourhood starting in early May 2026. Crews from Fire Rescue and Water & Wastewater will work through the area over the next several weeks to flush the local water mains.
Crews usually work between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. While crews work on your street, you might notice a temporary drop in water pressure or see cloudy water in your taps. The cloudiness comes from harmless mineral deposits stirred up in the pipes. The water is safe to drink once it runs clear for a few minutes.
To avoid staining clothes or clogging appliances, please do not run washing machines or dishwashers while crews are working on your street. Let the cold tap run for a few minutes until it clears. You can also fill a glass and put it in the refrigerator to check if the water is clear.
"Keeping our hydrants flushed is a quick way to check that they will work when emergencies happen, and it also helps keep the water fresh in our pipes," says Samuel Adeyemi, General Manager of Infrastructure and Planning. "We appreciate residents' patience while we work through the neighbourhood."
Crews will mark the streets they are working on with cones and signage. If you have questions about the schedule or need to report a hydrant that is not flushing properly, contact City Services at 519-555-0100 or visit the Water & Wastewater page for more details.
