Wrenford Fire Rescue will conduct ice rescue training at Ambrel Lake Park between January 20 and February 5, 2025. The training involves creating and maintaining open water patches in the lake's frozen surface to practice safe recovery techniques. To ensure everyone's safety, the public is strongly advised to stay well clear of the training zone. The area will be marked with bright barrier tape and warning signs to identify the hazard perimeter. Firefighters will be working on the ice in full protective gear, and any unauthorized access could put both residents and emergency responders at risk.
Ambrel Lake Park is a popular spot for winter walking and cross-country skiing, but crews will temporarily close a section of the south shoreline during these exercises. You should use alternative routes along the Tamsin River Trail System or the main loop around the park's north shore. Your safety is our top priority while crews carry out these essential drills.
"Ice rescue is a highly specialized skill that requires regular practice in controlled conditions," said Deputy Fire Chief Simon Hartley. "We want to make sure our crews are fully prepared to respond safely if someone ever falls through the ice. We appreciate the public's patience and cooperation as we carry out these essential drills."
You can report an emergency or learn more about Wrenford's winter safety protocols on the Fire Rescue and Emergency Management pages.
