The Wrenford Fire Department officially opened Fire Station 5 in the Stonebridge neighbourhood today. The grand opening ceremony at 60 Stonebridge Drive marks the completion of a two-year capital project designed to bring faster emergency response times and modern safety programming to the growing area.
The new facility replaces the need for crews to respond from Fire Station 3 in Westbrook. It will house two fire engines, a rescue unit, and dedicated space for training and equipment maintenance. Beyond emergency response, the building was designed with community use in mind. The station features a multi-purpose community room for public safety workshops and neighbourhood meetings, a publicly accessible washroom, and a secure area for the city’s Blue Box recycling drop-off.
“We are proud to bring Fire Station 5 online,” said Chief Darren MacAulay, General Manager of Protective Services. “This new station is a strategic investment for our community. It improves our response times for Stonebridge and nearby Wildrye, and it gives us a permanent home to run fire prevention education and community safety programmes.”
The project was funded through the city’s 2023–2027 Capital Plan at a total cost of $4.2 million. Construction began in spring 2024 and followed the original timeline, with no budget overruns. The building meets the latest Ontario Building Code standards for emergency facilities and includes energy-efficient heating and cooling systems to lower long-term operating costs.
Residents in the Stonebridge, Wildrye, and Meadowlark neighbourhoods will notice a difference in how quickly crews reach your home during an emergency. You can visit the station during business hours to tour the facility, meet the crew, and learn about smoke alarm installation and fire escape planning.
