Fallsview Arts Centre HVAC system upgraded

On July 15, 2025, the City of Wrenford and the Government of Canada begin a major upgrade to the heating and cooling system at the Fallsview Arts Centre. The project runs through mid-August and will make the downtown venue more energy efficient.

The federal government is contributing $350,000 through the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings program. The City of Wrenford is adding $100,000 to the project. Together, these funds will replace the building’s old mechanical units and upgrade the lighting throughout the venue. The new systems are expected to cut the theatre’s energy consumption by about 52 per cent and lower greenhouse gas emissions by 40 tonnes each year.

During the installation phase, crews will need to work inside the building and occasionally use the loading dock area on Fallsview Road. Because some equipment deliveries require a truck to park near the venue, the City will issue temporary street use permits to manage traffic. Residents and businesses nearby may notice minor changes to parking for a few hours each day. If you need to access your property or pass through the area, please follow the signs posted by the construction crew. For details on how the City handles road work and parking changes, see the Roads & Winter Maintenance page.

“The Fallsview Arts Centre is a cornerstone of our cultural community,” says Fiona Gallagher, general manager of community services. “Upgrading the heating and cooling system ensures the venue stays comfortable for audiences and performers while keeping utility bills low. This is a win for the arts and for the environment.”

The theatre will remain open during the work. Show schedules will not be affected, though backstage areas may be slightly busier than usual. Once the project is complete, the building will run on cleaner energy and offer a more reliable climate for winter performances and summer events.
