Starting Monday, May 12, the ice resurfacing schedule at Eastfield Twin Arenas will shift to twice weekly as we prepare for the summer ball hockey season. The new schedule will have crews resurfacing both ice pads on Tuesdays and Fridays at 5:00 a.m.
During the winter months, the ice was resurfaced daily to handle high public and league usage. As the facility transitions to summer ball hockey, maintenance priorities change. Resurfacing twice a week is enough to keep the ice smooth and safe for public skating while allowing crews to dedicate more time to the specialized preparation required for ball hockey courts and equipment.
Public skating sessions will continue as scheduled. However, skaters should allow an extra 10 minutes for the ice to settle and firm up after a fresh resurfacing. If you plan to skate early in the morning, please check the public skating schedule before heading out.
"This adjusted schedule allows our maintenance crews to focus on the specific needs of the summer ball hockey programme while ensuring the ice remains safe and smooth for public skaters," says Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation as we make these seasonal changes to keep our facilities running smoothly."
