The City of Wrenford’s Parks and Facilities team installed new electric ice resurfacers at the Eastfield Twin Arenas this week to prepare for the fall maintenance schedule and the upcoming winter season.
The old gas-powered machines were replaced over the past two weeks by City crews. The new zero-emission models run quieter, use less water, and cut long-term fuel costs. The municipal maintenance and servicing contracts for the equipment were awarded to a local Wrenford business, keeping technical repair jobs and training within the community. This upgrade aligns with the City’s broader green infrastructure goals while lowering operating expenses for public skating and league hockey programs.
“Investing in modern, efficient ice care equipment is about more than just better ice,” says Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. “It lowers our long-term operating costs, reduces our environmental footprint, and creates steady work for local trades and technicians. It’s a practical step that benefits skaters, the City’s budget, and our green economy goals.”
If you notice any ice surface issues or need to book an arena session, contact the facilities team at 519-555-0123. Winter program registration opens Monday, December 1, 2025, and public skating sessions will resume in October. For full hours, rental details, and booking information, visit the Facilities page.
