Eastfield Twin Arenas closed February 10 for resurfacing work

Eastfield Twin Arenas will close temporarily starting February 10, 2025 for resurfacing work on both ice pads. The closure will last approximately two weeks, with the arena expected to reopen on February 24. This schedule ensures the facility is ready for the summer ball hockey season that typically begins in May.

The City will be resurfacing the ice and performing necessary maintenance to the flooring and boards. This work is part of our regular facility upkeep schedule to ensure a safe playing surface for all skaters, leagues, and public programs.

“We know that mid-season closures can be difficult for teams and recreational skaters,” says Fiona Gallagher, General Manager, Community Services. “We are working closely with our ice crews to keep the downtime as short as possible. We encourage all users to check the Facilities page for updates on other available arenas.”

During the closure, public skating and drop-in hockey at the Eastfield Twin Arenas will be suspended. Organized sports teams with existing bookings will be contacted directly to arrange make-up ice time or temporary use of other city arenas.

In the meantime, outdoor rinks are not yet open for public use, but Parks crews are preparing them for the early spring. If snow conditions allow, crews will open one of the boarded outdoor rinks in the Benchlands neighbourhood as early as February 15 for casual play.

Users looking for additional ice time can check the Programs page for upcoming public skating sessions and league schedules at other city arenas, including the Westbrook Community Arena and the Northgate Aquatic Centre. All bookings for the affected dates will be automatically adjusted by our recreation staff.
