East Wrenford Waste Management Facility environmental upgrade complete

On July 15, 2025, the City of Wrenford finished a major environmental upgrade at the East Wrenford Waste Management Facility. The new systems are now online and running at the 3500 Concession 4 Road location.

The project included installing a new leachate treatment line and upgrading the odour control scrubbers at the landfill and drop-off depot. These changes will better capture wastewater and reduce odours for nearby residents and workers. The upgraded equipment uses less power and meets all provincial standards under the Environmental Protection Act.

During construction, crews temporarily moved some waste collection to the Northgate Drop-off Depot and adjusted drop-off hours. All services are now back to their regular schedules.

City staff have been testing the new equipment for the past two weeks. The upgrade extends the facility's life while cutting energy use. Working alongside the Parks & Trails team, staff also improved the site's drainage to protect the surrounding Corvid Creek Ravine and the wider Tamsin River Trail System.

"This upgrade is a key part of our long-term plan to keep our waste operations safe and sustainable," said Robert Eng, City Manager. "We are proud to deliver a project that protects our environment and improves the experience for everyone who visits the facility."

Residents can continue to bring household hazardous waste, leaf and yard waste, and recycling materials to the facility on its regular Monday to Saturday hours. The Northgate Drop-off Depot remains open on Wednesdays and Saturdays for smaller items.
