Council approves 2026 operating budget with 3.9 per cent tax increase

Wrenford City Council approved the 2026 operating budget and the 2026 tax levy by-law at its regular meeting on Monday, September 1. The approved budget includes a 3.9 per cent increase in property taxes, which the mayor and city manager say is necessary to keep roads, water systems, and community programs running smoothly.

The approved 2026 operating budget allocates $142 million for city services and infrastructure. Key spending priorities include $48 million for road repairs and winter maintenance, $36 million for water and wastewater system upgrades, and $22 million for parks and recreation facilities. The budget also covers day-to-day costs for the Wrenford Police Service and fire protection.

"This budget reflects what our community asked for during the engagement process," said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. "We had to make tough choices to keep taxes as low as possible while still funding the repairs and services that keep our city safe and functional."

Homeowners will see the change on their 2026 property tax bills, which are due in February and April. The 3.9 per cent increase adds roughly $42 to the annual tax bill for an average home in Wrenford. Residents who pay their taxes through pre-authorized monthly plans will see a small adjustment to their regular payments.

The full budget document, including detailed spending plans for every department, is now available online. You can view the approved 2026 operating budget, check the property tax payment schedule, or read the tax levy by-law on the City website.
